A Time of Waiting….in a Different Way

Advent wreath

Advent is upon us and it begins this Sunday! During this time, we wait in anticipation of Jesus’ birth at Christmas. The season of Advent is filled with rituals and traditions that we embrace each year, be it lighting a candle on the Advent wreath, reading Advent devotions, setting up the Nativity, decorating the Christmas tree, preparing for family get togethers…the list goes on.

This year is going to be different….very different. In-person gathering at church is not part of our plans right now. Instead, we will experience Advent through online worship and prayer services. We are not able to gather with family and friends so we will need to connect with each other with phone calls, texts, Zoom meetings and FaceTime chats.

In collaboration with Deacon Michelle Collins (Assistant to the Bishop, MNO Synod), I have created some Advent resources to use at home. I hope you find these helpful:

This truly will be a new Advent journey for all of us. Yet, despite living in the uncertainty of this pandemic, God’s promise remains – the Messiah is coming! We will still experience the hope, peace, joy and love of Advent as we prepare for the birth of Jesus!

  1. Hi Candy.

Great job on the Season of Advent blog. I especially liked the calendar of Advent action ( doing good for others) and the hyperlink for the ‘do-it-yourself’ Nativity display. Perhaps that will encourage a greater focus on our own spirituality during our Covid lockdown. Many of us can benefit by re-embracing our spirituality and focusing on our relationship with The Lord!
Thank you for the post – much enjoyed
